Humane way to cook live crabs

Neocrab® supports the humane killing of crabs. Prior to cooking, crabs should be put in a refrigerator or freezer (below 4oC) for 2 hours to kill them. Decreasing the temperature does not cause them to suffer. Once dead crabs will show no response to stimuli. Faster humane killing includes the use of machines such as the Crustastun, which stuns a crab with an electric shock that kills them instantly.

Humane killing of crabs increases their meat quality, as other killing methods stress them, increasing adrenaline production, which causes the meat to be less tasty.
